Livia Lancelot vice World Champion

Livia Lancelot of Team One One Four Kawasaki missed retaining the FIM World WMX Women's Motocross Championship by just a single point after a thrilling final round at Villars-sous-Ecot in her native France.

Four girls have been locked in contention for the world title all season and they came to the final round of the series in the district of Montbeliard, close to the Swiss border, separated by just four points. Light rain began to fall soon after the start of the first moto on Saturday afternoon and each of the girls fell at least once in the extremely slippery conditions. Livia eventually finished third to enter the final race of her illustrious career on Sunday morning five points shy of the series pacesetter. She quickly moved into second place and when the series leader fell twenty minutes into the race Livia temporarily inherited the points lead to the unrestrained joy of the many fans lining the circuit. But half a lap later an Italian rival gained a place behind her and that was sufficient to reverse the championship positions, Livia falling just a single point short of her third world title on Kawasaki.

Livia Lancelot:  "I gave my best all season; since Indonesia I did everything I could and I have no regrets as I did what I had to do. No regrets, even if it’s easy to look back to find where I could have found one more point as in the end I lost the title by just one point! But second in the world is not so bad; many girls would like to get this result and I enjoyed every moment of this weekend with my family and the fans who came to cheer me. It's just a shame that it rained during the first race on Saturday; I was the fastest on the track at that moment but I made a mistake. I didn’t see a rut as I had mud on my goggles; I made a mistake, but we all made mistakes this year. We all gave our maximum this season, so we have no regrets at all, and I will keep so many good memories from this season and from this final round with all these fans around me.”
