Medical all-clear for Romain Febvre after start collision

Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP's Romain Febvre was given a medical all-clear following a start collision in Qualifying for the Spanish round of the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship at Arroyomolinos.

The Frenchman made a lightening start from gate seven in the Qualifying race but as riders bunched up into the first turn he touched wheels with another rider and was thrown dramatically to the ground. Medical staff and officials were quick to respond and the race was red-flagged in the interest of safety. Doctors established no significant injury at the Medical Centre but the rider went to the local hospital for further precautionary checks.

Antti Pyrhönen (KRT team manager): "Romain was very unlucky on the start; another rider came quite hard from outside, he got squeezed in and ended up with a big crash. It looked really scary but luckily everything is OK with no major injuries and that's the important thing. He went to hospital as he feels a little shaken and the doctors just wanted to check him over; a rider's health is always our first priority and we won't take any risk on this."

KRT teammate Mitch Evans, who continues to build from his recent injury lay-off, qualified fifteenth after racing around that position throughout the Qualifying race.

Mitch Evans: "We played around with bike set-up this morning and found a good solution, so tomorrow should be OK. The track dried from the morning and got quite rough but I like the track and the way it forms up. I'm still just searching for that race-pace; we have some plans for this week to get on top of that, but for now we're just focused on tomorrow to see what we can do."

F&H Kawasaki Racing Team's Kevin Horgmo made good quick passes on the opening lap to move into eighth position in Qualifying for the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship round and maintained that placing to the finish in a fast-moving leaderboard.

Kevin Horgmo: "I didn't feel comfortable in the morning but my riding was improving every lap in Qualifying after I got a good start and could put the laps in. I'm only missing a little now to close the gap to the front guys tomorrow."

Teammate David Braceras maintained his consistent form in his rookie season to take the chequered flag sixteenth.

David Braceras: "I like the track layout this year and I was feeling good this morning. Qualifying didn't go as I planned but I'm motivated and focused to get a good start tomorrow and make the top ten. The Spanish fans are amazing and I have extra motivation when I hear them; I think tomorrow will be good."

Big Van World MTX Kawasaki’s Jack Chambers advanced quickly to fifteenth during the first two laps until an off-track excursion cost him three places, but he responded well to regain fifteenth on the final lap with his fastest lap of the race.

BUD Racing Kawasaki's Australian teenager Liam Owens opened his points account in the first moto of the FIM European EMX250 Championship round with a solid ride to sixteenth. The fifteen-year-old had already impressed earlier in the day with eleventh-fastest time in practice, just one week after arriving in Europe. It was a disappointing afternoon for BUD teammate Quentin Marc Prugnières as he retired on the second lap.
