Season starts - what should I do?
Here you’ll find all the tips we consider relevant for getting your Kawasaki ready for the season:
Tip #1 | Battery:
Charge the battery using a suitable charger.
If the battery was removed, reinstall it in the motorcycle. Connect the terminals by connecting the positive (+) terminal first, followed by the negative (–) terminal (as a mnemonic for installing or removing a battery, remember the following: When installing a battery, you want to “add” something—this means connecting the positive (+) terminal first, followed by the negative (–) terminal. When removing a battery, you’re “removing” something—so disconnect the – terminal first, followed by the + terminal).
Finally, apply a special battery terminal grease to the terminals. This prevents corrosion, oxidation, and leakage currents.
Tip #2 | Fluid Levels:
Visually check that the levels of operating fluids (engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid) are correct.
Also visually inspect for leaks and damage, specifically: the oil drain plug, brake fluid reservoir, and brake lines, as well as the bleed screws on the brake calipers, radiator, oil seals on the fork legs, and shock absorbers.
Tip # 3 | Cleaning:
First, wipe off the protective film on chrome or other metal surfaces that were treated for winter storage using a dry, soft cloth.
Next, thoroughly clean the painted and plastic parts with a dry cleaner. We recommend Motul Wash & Wax for this. Hot tip: After the thorough cleaning, seal the bike with Motul Shine & Go. This leaves a light silicone coating on the surfaces and makes future cleaning easier.
Tip #4 | Tire Tread and Tire Pressure:
Check the tire pressure and adjust it if necessary (please refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual for the correct tire pressure). Also, perform a visual inspection of the tires (condition and tread depth—the legal minimum tread depth for motorcycles is 1.6 mm).
Tip #5 | Chain and Chain Slack:
Before your first ride, you should also clean and lubricate the chain and sprocket, checking them for wear and chain slack at the same time. The owner´s manual will support you if you need to adjust the slack.
Tip #6 | Electrical System:
With a fully charged battery, turn on the ignition and check that the headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and horn are working; set the time and, if applicable, the date correctly.
Tip #7 | Functionality Check:
Check controls such as the throttle grip, clutch lever, and brake for proper function, smooth operation, and necessary play. While stationary, apply “pressure” to the hand and foot brake levers (by applying the brakes) and ensure the pressure point is firm and consistent; visually inspect the thickness of the brake pads.
Tip #8 | Authorized partners:
If you are unsure before your first ride out of the season, please get in contact with one of our dealers. They are looking forward to helping you. [dealerfinder]
